Exercise One - creation of subcategories and forms

In this activity we are going to create new subcategories and forms.

  • Using the admin kapp categories section we will create new categories as subcategories and add them to a top level category.
  • We will also nest a new category inside of a subcategory to show how categories can have multiple levels of subcategories.
  • We will then create new forms to populate the categories that where created in the first part of the exercise.

Part 1 create subcategories.

  1. From the Management Console select the Admin kapp from the left-hand side navigation bar.
  2. Make sure that you are currently on the Overview subsection.
  3. Click the "View Kapp" link on the right-hand side of the screen.

  4. Click the "Catalog" link located under the "Categories" section.

  5. Click the "+ Add Category" button on the right hand side of the screen.
  6. A menu will appear under the button.  Give the category a name.
  7. Click the "Save" button.  This will add a panel to the Categories section of the screen.

When a dragged category is positioned to become a subcategory a dotted line will appear as the image above shows.  In the example above the Web category will become a subcategory of the Application category.
  8. Click and hold the newly created category and drag it under another category.  You have made your first subcategory!
  9. Continue to add categories until you have multiple top level categories (in the image above Hardware and Software are top level categories).
  10. Add a subcategory to multiple top level categories, also have a top level category with multiple subcategories (above Hardware has multiple subcategories).
  11. Add a subcategory to one of the subcategories that exist (above the Phone category is a subcategory of the subcategory Application category).

Part 2 create forms and add them to subcategories

  1. Return to the Management Console and select the Catalog Kapp.
  2. Choose the Forms subsection tab.
  3. Create a new form.
  4. Give the form a name.
  5. Select a Status of Active from the dropdown menu.
  6. Click Create button.

  7. In the form builder add a Page element.
  8. Give the Page element a Name.
  9. Save the form.
  10. Select the < (back button) to return to the Management Console.
  11. Select the Categories tab from the subnavigtion bar.
  12. From the dropdown select a category to put the form into.
  13. Click the + Add Categories button.
  14. Click the ✔ Save Categories button.

  15. Repeat all the steps in Part 2 of this exercise until you have a form with a Status of Active in each category and subcategory.
Important, do not add a form to a category and a subcategory if you do not want the form to show up in two locations.
